POULSBO — Poulsbo has a new beat reporter care of its hometown newspaper.

Carrina Galloway joined the editorial staff at the North Kitsap Herald this week and will cover Little Norway happenings and city events.

Galloway comes to the Herald from the Horvitz Newspaper Group where she worked for two years — the past six months of which were at the Redmond Reporter.

She grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Central Washington University’s journalism program in 2000.

“I am extremely happy to be joining the team at the North Kitsap Herald and the fine community of Poulsbo,” Galloway said, noting that she and her fiancee, Tom Stanton, recently found an apartment in town.#

While Galloway is an avid tennis and golf player, she admitted, “For the past year, I haven’t had many hobbies because I’ve been planning a wedding.”

The happy date is set for Oct. 12.

While she isn’t Norwegian, Galloway was quick to point out that — to the best of her knowledge — her first name is.

“I don’t have a drop of Norwegian blood in me but my father named me after a Viking princess off an animated Tarzan series,” she said with a laugh.

Galloway replaces Joe Irwin, who was on the Poulsbo beat for about four years. Irwin now serves the entire community as editor at the North Kitsap Herald.

“It’s nice to have another (person of Irish descent) on staff,” Irwin said. “Someone who realizes that the statement ‘Erin go braugh’ doesn’t pertain to a sale at Victoria’s Secret.”

“Seriously though, Carrina’s a terrific addition to our editorial department and will do us all proud with her precise coverage of local events in and around the city,” he added.
