Nuchims to host candidate forums

South Kitsap commissioner candidate Paul Nuchims will host the first of four issue-oriented public forums from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 3 at the Manchester Gallery, 724 Bay St. in downtown Port Orchard.

Nuchims said these forums are meant to examine important issues in depth. The first meeting will discuss transportation and housing.

As for the first topic, Nuchims said the soaring gas prices have forced people to find alternatives to driving two-ton vehicles from one place to another.

Walking, biking, and public transportation must be a safe and exhilarating experience. As for housing, the disparity between housing and condo prices and empty rentals is cause for concern.

He plans to discuss possible options relative to infrastructure and financing to moderate the problem as well as how to keep communities safe.

Other topics include June 17, education and communication; July 1, recreation and quality of Life; and, July 15, responsibility and methodology, the future.

Nuchims has invited all the candidates for the South Kitsap commissioner’s seat as well as all sitting commissioners to the event.

Of these, Tim Matthes has indicated he will attend part of the meeting, while Charlotte Garrido and Monty Mahan have other obligations.

All three county commissioners have other engagements scheduled at that time.
