TEXAS HOLD ‘EM TOURNAMENT: 6:30 p.m. Port Orchard Eagles, $15 buy-in. Info: 360-876-2338.Dear Mayor Rob Putaansuu,
My husband and I moved to Port Orchard and bought a house here in 1987. We have watched and waited and hoped for our little town to flourish. Things seem to improve, but then decline. Case in point: the Port Orchard Public Market, a charming addition to our downtown, which seems to be struggling.
Of particular concern to me is the continued eyesore at the corner of Bay Street and Sidney Avenue, the former Myhre’s Restaurant. I have lost track of how many years it has been vacant. It is becoming more and more decrepit. It is at the heart of our could-be charming historic downtown. I do not believe anything can thrive near this ugly, run-down, incomplete shell.
It is my impression that if a home owner creates an eyesore in a neighborhood, with junk and rusty cars, that person will be required to clean up the mess. Why is this not also true for a business property owner? The person who owns that building does not have the best interests of the community at heart.
I would like to see you use your new power to get this problem solved. Quickly.
Thank you for letting me tell you what I think. I would enjoy hearing from you.
