LIVESTOCK: The Kitsap Conservation District and Kitsap County Facilities Parks and Recreation Department are offering free, aged livestock manure for pickup. The event dubbed “Doo For You” is today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interested parties should drive through the Nels Nelson Road NE entrance to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. SOFTBALL: The Bremerton Girls Softball Association (BGSA) will hold softball and fastpitch registration from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at Mountain View Middle School. No experience is required and girls ages 5-16 are encouraged to sign up. Information: (360) 479-4206.

BUGS: The Bremerton Urban Garden Society will host the first of a series of gardening classes called “Grow Your Own Food” at the Sylvan Way branch of the Kitsap Regional Library. CHADD: “Intervention Strategies for the Family and Children with AD/HD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and other Anxiety Problems” will be presented by John Rarick, Ph.D., Peninsula Psychological Center on March 11 at 7 p.m. to the Kitsap Branch of CHADD, the local AD/HD (Attention Deficit Disorder) support group. ASK A PROFESSIONAL: The Altrua International Inc. Kitsap Club presents the second in a series of “Ask a Professional” programs, featuring Jackie Fojtik, Red Cross Youth Services Coordinator. CONCERT: Concert Rock Violinist Aaron Meyer performs cutting edge original music and arrangements with virtuosity and passion. COUNCIL MEETING: The next meeting of the City Council’s Planning Committee will be held Wednesday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. in the DCD Conference Room located on the 6th floor of the Norm Dicks Government Center.

NAACP: The NAACP Bremerton Branch Freedom Fund Program that was set for Feb. 14 has been rescheduled to April 5. The event will be held at the Norm Dicks Government Center located in Bremerton. Information: Juanita Bernard at jbern009@odu.edu.

FARMERS MARKET: The Bremerton Farmers Market is seeking vendors for its 2008 market season, including farmers and artisans, as well as musicians to perform at the market. The season will run every Thursday, May 15 through Oct. 9, from

TAX COUNSELING: The IRS and AARP jointly sponsor a program staffed by volunteers to electronically prepare and file income tax returns at no cost to the taxpayers. Although intended for elderly and low-income families, no taxpayer will be turned away. Note however, taxpayer’s returns requiring the reporting of significant business income or any loss, or any rental income are beyond the scope of this program. Tax-Aide volunteers are prepared to handle all 2007 tax law changes.

Taxpayers must bring a photo identification, documents verifying the Social Security numbers of all persons on the tax return and all 2007 tax documents, such as statements of income from wages, retirement, social security, interest and or dividends. It is advisable to bring a checkbook to provide account numbers for electronic funds transfer and a copy of the 2006 return for comparison purposes. If in doubt about the paperwork, bring it all and let us sort it out.   

Please plan to arrive early. We try not to begin preparation of a new return during the last half hour before closing time.

As your community newspaper, the Patriot invites all service organizations, community groups and others with community events upcoming to send us an e-mail at editor@bremertonpatriot.com or give us a call at (360) 782-1581, so we can let everyone know what’s going on.

Ongoing events like group meetings will be included in the “Ongoing” part of the calendar, which will appear on as space allows basis. Everything else will be listed by date or as “Upcoming.”

In order to make that happen, we need you, our faithful readers, to help us out. Simply put without you, it won’t be possible.
