Boil water advisory issued for Bremerton neighborhood

KPUD says E. coli found in samples

Residents of the Green Mountain Acres neighborhood in Bremerton, west of Wildcat Lake, have been advised by the Kitsap Public Utility District to boil their water for a full minute before drinking due to the presence of E. Coli bacteria found during routine water sampling.

Mark Morgan, water resources manager for KPUD, said boil water advisories were a rare occassion for the county and estimated the last one occurred five or six years ago.

Morgan said KPUD has already added chlorine to the resevoir and will be resampling the water on Wednesday and Thursday.

“We will go out there Tuesday and flush off any remaining chlorine … once we get those results from those two days of sampling — if they’re all clear. Best case scenario time-wise is that we can lift this order next Friday.”

KPUD has provided details associated with the boil water advisory on their website here. Morgan said the contamination is not a countywide issue and is localized only to the addresses listed in the advisory.
