Bainbridge briefly

Leader leaves

Ed Prunes, who has been at Bloedel Reserve since 2009, is leaving Aug. 15 to take a job in Cleveland.

Prunes started as associate director, was named executive director a year later, and after that became president and CEO. He will be in that same role at Holden Forests & Gardens in Ohio.

Under his leadership, Bainbridge Island’s 140-acre public garden and forest reserve has seen more visitors, developed mission-based programs and completed a $25 million fundraising campaign.

Wines win

Amelia Wynn wines won 10 gold medals at the recent Seattle Wine Awards.

All 10 received scores of 91-94 points.

The winners: 2019 Syrah; 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley; 2020 Tempranillo Wahluke Slope; 2020 Sangiovese; another 2020 Tempranillo; 2020 Merlot; another 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon; 2021 Grenache; 2021 Pinot Gris; and a 2021 Albarino.

Talk to Deets

Bainbridge Island City Councilmember Joe Deets is having his open office hours June 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at CUPS Espresso on 123 Bjune Drive SE in Winslow. Everyone is welcome to talk to him about city business.

Fireworks return

After losing its preferred firework vendor and not knowing if they were going to be able to provide a community display, the Kingston 4th of July Committee has found an alternative.

Although there will be a fireworks show, the cost of putting it on has increased significantly, chairman Tony Clark said. To combat the prices, Kingston 4th of July buttons and t-shirts will be on sale, along with donation jars, at local businesses. Donations can also be made on the event’s website.

The Kingston 4th will take place July 3-4. There will be Music in the Park, a Cornhole tournament, pancake breakfast, food trucks, a Beer and Spirits Garden, the Ball Race, Tiny Town, the parade down Highway 104 and more.

Country star Lorrie Morgan will perform a concert June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton.
