Bail $500K for man charged with rape of child

Bail has been set at $500,000 for a Bremerton man, 65, charged with first degree rape of a child.

The man was in Kitsap County Superior Court Nov. 13. He faces life in prison and $50,000 in fines as he has been convicted twice before of serious crimes.

Port Orchard police say on May 20 a father called 911 on behalf of his 7-year-old son, who said the suspect had touched his buttocks. The father said the boy had been exhibiting strange behavior, such as lashing out, talking back and avoiding contact with his family.

The father and his girlfriend had met the suspect two weeks earlier through a mutal friend at church. The suspect started showing up at their house to hang out, and while the dad thought that was strange people at church said the suspect was a “good guy.”

The dad wanted to take the boy for a sexual assault nurses exam, but the boy would jump out of the vehicle and refuse to go. Finally, the boy was forensically interviewed and was told the suspect touched him in his “no-no” spot.

When law enforcement looked at the suspect’s previous convictions, they found 40 years ago he had “befriended the fathers of children and began taking great interest in the young boys, buying them expensive gifts, taking them on excursions and having them spend the night with him.”

He had been diagnosed as a homosexual pedophile.

He was convicted again for similar crimes about 30 years ago.

He was released from incarceration in 2020 and relocated to Kitsap County. He has been off Department of Corrections supervision for about 1 1/2 years.

On Nov. 9, the suspect was arrested in the 1200 block of 5th Street in Bremerton.

Identity theft

A 38-year-old Port Orchard woman was in Superior Court Nov. 13 charged with second-degree identity theft.

Bail was $50,000. She faces five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Kitsap sheriff’s reports say on Nov. 6 a woman used a stolen credit card at four locations: spending about $400 at Target; $1,433 a Dicks Sporting Goods; $642 at Game Stop; and $657 at Sierra Trading Post.
