Back-to-back days of threats to CKSD students

It was a scary ending to the week for Central Kitsap students after back-to-back days of threats led to multiple lockdowns and the arrest of two minors.

Students and faculty at Central Kitsap High School and middle school were sent into lockdown the morning of Oct. 21 after some students received a “vague general threat” through AirDrop during first period, according to an alert sent out from principal Craig Johnson.

He said the district made the move “out of an abundance of caution.” The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office later determined the threat was not credible, and the lockout was lifted around 10:30 a.m.

That incident occurred just one day after a 17-year-old boy brought a loaded handgun into CKHS.

Officials said a school resource officer was investigating a report of a vehicle on school grounds that was parked illegally in a fire lane and facing the wrong direction. The officer went to the vehicle, which was occupied by the suspect and a CKHS student.

The officer took the suspect into custody after learning that he had trespassed on school property and the vehicle was stolen.

School staff then advised police that the suspect had allegedly robbed a student of some belongings. Upon searching the suspect a second time, a loaded handgun was recovered along with a flare gun and pellet gun.

The suspect was booked into the Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Center and was charged with suspicion of first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and felony harassment.

A second juvenile was also arrested and booked for disorderly conduct.
