2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors named

BREMERTON — The Bremerton Central Lions Charitable Foundation has named five students — Emily Nguyen, John Michael Olson, Emilee Nicolle Perry, Adelyn Grace Ulehla and Mackenzie Zurbrugg — as its 2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors.

The students will ride in the annual Armed Forces Day parade and each will be granted a scholarship in recognition of their educational and community involvement.

Emily Nguyen

2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors named

Emily Nguyen is the daughter of Connie and Giang Nguyen and has sported a Knights jersey on the tennis court all four years at Bremerton High School. Living in Bremerton, Nguyen has been a leader in the National Junior Honor Society, the National Honor Society and Key Club. Nguyen was also a member of Distributive Education Clubs of America, Rotary Young Leadership Awards Conference and Link Crew. Nguyen was elected class treasurer during her junior year and has racked up 460 volunteer hours in community service. Nguyen is sponsored by Kitsap Bank.

John Michael Olson

2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors named

John Michael Olson is the son of Carroll and Tim Olson.

Olson lives in Port Orchard and attends South Kitsap High School as well as Olympic College Running Start. Olson is not only a columnist for the student newspaper at OC, but is vice president of public relations and communications for the student government. Olson has also been involved in musical productions at Christ the Rock Community Church and sports at SK, where he was a member of the track and field team. Outside of high school, Olson was a member of the Puget Sound Swim Club. Rather fittingly, he is sponsored by Olympic College.

Emilee Nicolle Perry

2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors named

Emilee Nicolle Perry is the daughter of Heather and William Perry.

Perry of Bremerton attends Bremerton High School. Perry has been involved with the Associated Student Body as vice president and is currently a member of the National Honor Society. Perry was also a member of Key Club and Link Crew. Outside of school, she volunteers at Bloodworks Northwest, among other activities. She’s also employed at Olympic Educational Service District 114 in the 21st Century Community Learning Center’s Success program as a tutor at Armin Jahr Elementary School. Perry is sponsored by AMI International.

Adelyn Grace Ulehla

2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors named

Adelyn Grace Ulehla, the daughter of Amanda and Derek Ulehla, is also sponsored by Olympic College. Ulehla lives on Bainbridge Island and attends Bainbridge Island High School. Not only does Ulehla participate on the cheerleading squad — which includes the Spirit Squad — she is involved with the Bainbridge Island Junior Cheer community service organization and the Interact Community Service Club. Ulehla is a member of the National Honor Society. She participated in the 2016 Society of American Military Engineers and, more specifically, in the Engineering and Construction Camp. As a part-time employee at Island Cool, Ulehla is also an Island Ambassador. She stays busy as part of the Feminist Forum, Link Crew and Future Business Leaders of America.

Mackenzie Zurbrugg

2018 Bremerton Armed Forces Festival ambassadors named

Mackenzie Zurbrugg, the daughter of Kristina and Robert Zurbrugg, lives in Bremerton and attends Bremerton High School. Zurbrugg was a member of Link Crew to help spur the success of freshmen. Zurbrugg was Miss Kitsap in 2017, Zurbrugg volunteers her time outside of school with the City of Bremerton at the Department of Public Works and Utilities. There, she assists with community outreach and administration. Zurbrugg is also a dancer at Bremerton Dance Center and Peninsula Dance Theatre. Zurbrugg is sponsored by Port Madison Enterprises.
