The Bremerton WestSound Symphony started during the Second World War, and has continued to offer Kitsap County world class music through eight eventful decades. The non-profit musical organization even managed to thrive during a global pandemic, offering virtual and in-person concerts to bring classical, jazz and choral music to an even broader audience.
“We gained over 500 new patrons over the past year, and now our plan is to keep those patrons by offering a little something for everyone through our 80th year,” says Alan Futterman, Bremerton WestSound Symphony’s Music Director and Conductor.

Simply Brass, a traditional brass quintet, has emerged as one of Kitsap County’s most exciting ensembles. Composed of past and present Bremerton Symphony members, these fine musicians have been playing together for over 30 years. Their engagements have taken them to every corner of the county and beyond, playing music from classical, to blues and jazz, to marches, and even pop; something for just about everyone!
World renowned violinist Sophie Lee won the prestigious Menuhin Competition at the age of 12 and has performed with symphonies around the world. At the Kitsap Fair on Sunday she’ll be dusting off the brilliant Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, backed by 25 members of the Bremerton Symphony.
Something for everyone throughout the 80th year
The 80th Anniversary festivities continue in the fall at the annual Gala on Sept. 24 at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club — live and in person for the first time in two years! There’s still time to donate prizes for the auction, so if you have a vacation rental or local experience to share, reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Subscriptions for the 80th season are available now at bremertonwestsoundsymphony.org/subscriptions.
“The first concert celebrates the USA with everything from music based on Native American tunes, popular songs of the 1890s and familiar patriotic hymns. Our second concert caters to stalwart classical fans with a full program of Mozart. December, we’re performing a great Dvořák symphony, religious choral music for the season and barbershop. In the spring we’ll feature some Hispanic composers, opera and more,” Futterman says.
