Mediterranean-style six-string Wednesday, free acoustic Thursday and a double-CD-release show Saturday fill out Kitsap’s docket of rock.

WEDNESDAY

PAVLO, Mediterranean-style music, presented by the West Sound Entertainment Association at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Bremerton Performing Arts Center, 1500 13th St. in Bremerton. All ages, tickets are $35 ($60 season ticket for six shows) at the door or by calling (360) 692-9463.

Seventy years ago, a group called Bremerton Community concert organized itself to bring “world class” concerts to Kitsap, providing an entertainment alternative to the Seattle commute by bringing high-caliber musicians to the area.

Now known as the West Sound Entertainment Association, its quest is continued today, showcasing an average of five shows a year at the Bremerton Performing Arts Center at Bremerton High School.

This year, they’ll feature six from September through May, starting with Mediterranean-style guitarist Pavlo tonight.

An artist at the center of a PBS documentary currently circulating stations across the country, who made the Billboard Top 10 in 2005 and headlined the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2006, Pavlo has always known he was meant to entertain the masses.

A prodigy of sorts, playing and writing songs on the guitar before he reached his teens, Pavlo filtered through a myriad rock bands through his 20s before finding his own distinct style while on vacation in Santorini, Greece.

Now, he’s taken Mediterranean nights around the world. He comes to Bremerton for a Mediterranean night tonight amidst a massive U.S./Canadian tour.

THURSDAY

CHRIS SWITZER, free acoustic show at 8 p.m., Sept. 11 at the Manette Saloon, 2113 E. 11th St. in Bremerton. No cover, 21+.

While not quite as distinguished as Wednesday’s featured guitarist, Bremerstringer Chris Switzer has a distinctive style all his own.

On the one hand he puts together full band, heavily distorted hard rock compositions with himself on all the instruments from the Godsmack-ish vocals to the simplistic drum kit. On the another he’s got a more mellow, acoustic guitar/heart-on-the-sleeve sort of thing going on.

See a little bit of both Jekyll and Hyde and hear grunge/alt rock covers acoustically at the Manette. Free.

You may have heard the promo for these “Rumors of Wars” on Seattle radio 99.9 FM the Rock lately.

“Just in time for the fall of mankind, announcing the release of the Assasinators debut album ‘Rumors of Wars,’ ” a movie-phone sounding guy broadcasts.

Take that anger-laden brand of beer-and-blood-drenched hard core anti-politico punk rock songs like “New World Mafia,” “Cubicle Massacre,” “Imaginary Enemies” from the guys who brought you the Boneyard Bash (Assasinators) match them with Bremerton hardcore from Y.I.A and Deathlist 5 and you’ll be hard pressed to find an evening more full of sonic doom.
