Best Bets for this weekend

Labor Day weekend signals the last “unofficial” weekend of summer. For many, it’s a three-day weekend and there’s plenty to do in Kitsap County. Here are our suggestions:

Blackberry Festival, Sept. 2-4. Bremerton’s annual festival celebrating everything blackberry — featuring food and craft booths, live music, Berry Fun Run, Fly-In, Car Show, chalk the block, beer garden, a children’s stage and more. Presented by Bremerton Rotary at the Downtown Bremerton Boardwalk, 100 Washington Beach Ave., Bremerton.

As part of the festivities, make sure you see the Blackberry Festival and Fly-In on Sept. 2, beginning at 10 a.m. at Bremerton National Airport.

Seventh annual Taste of Port Orchard, noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 3. Enjoy treats from local restaurants and caterers. Artists will showcase their jewelry, photography, watercolors, and other works. Tammy Frost will be back with music. Presented by Port Orchard Bay Street Association at the Port Orchard Marina Waterfront Park, 707 Sidney Parkway, Port Orchard.

Movies on the Lawn, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 3. Free family fun, rain or shine. Bring your own lawn chairs, spread a blanket and enjoy the show. Snacks and drinks will be available for sale. No outside food or drink is permitted. Presented by Suquamish Clearwater Casino and Resort, 15347 Suquamish Way NE, Suquamish.

Art events. There are several to choose from. On Bainbridge Island, check out Art in Action, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 1. Teaching artists will guide make-and-take art projects for all ages. Free program, no preregistration; art supplies will be provided. Location: Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, 550 Winslow Way East, Bainbridge Island.

The Bainbridge Island Art Walk will take place from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 1. Walk downtown Winslow for an evening of art, food, and friends.

In Bremerton, First Friday Art Walk will take place 5-8 p.m. Sept. 1. Bremerton has one of the largest and most diverse official arts districts in the Northwest. Centered in downtown at Fourth Street and Pacific Avenue, the arts district includes galleries, museums, restaurants, shops, theaters, and nightclubs featuring jazz and other live music.

Take a short walk across the Manette Bridge to enjoy more art, shopping, dining and entertainment. Presented by the Downtown Bremerton Association.
