Are you aware that the Greater Hansville Community Center awards scholarships each spring to deserving community members?

They are awarded to high school seniors and for adult extended learning. The deadline is May 1. If you are interested in applying, please log onto the website hansville.org. Under the Scholarship tab, you will see where you can download the appropriate submission document. And don’t forget: your postmark deadline for this application is May 1, so if you are interested, get started today.

If you live in a rural area like we do here in Hansville, well, we have all the advantages. If you like boats, we have plenty of salt water and we even have Buck Lake for those remote-controlled model boats. If you like gardening, we have a very active gardening club. The Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club is also offering grants. All projects for the beautification and conservation of North Kitsap that aid the protection of native plants and birds (including civic plantings) will be considered. For an application, go to flotsam andjetsamgardenclub.com.

Eglon has an active community center too. Eglon’s Spring Sale is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7.

The Driftwood Key Craft Show is noon to 4 p.m. on April 16. At this event, you’ll be able to buy baked goods from the Hansville Helping Hands and purchase the new Hansville history book.

Another fortunate factor we have in our area is the Kitsap Library at Little Boston. They have Crafternoon (for you crafty people), Book Group for reading and discussing books, Family Story Time, and lots more to offer. Go to krl.org and check it out (pun intended).

There isn’t room in the column to mention every event planned for us in our Hansville area, but you can go to the web site (hansville.org) and click on Events and see the whole month of activities. There just has to be some that are of interest to you — or, if you’re like me, so much to do and attend and so little time for everything. You’ll see me at many of these places; will I see you there too?

If we haven’t met before, please introduce yourself. I’m pretty friendly.
