POULSBO — The theme of the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce’s annual President’s Gala & Community Awards Banquet on Jan. 25 is “Salute to the Military” and will take place at an appropriate venue: Naval Base Kitsap — Bangor.

“If people want to join us at the gala, this is not a chamber-only event — it’s a community event,” chamber executive director Jan Harrison said. All reservations must be made by Jan. 15, no exceptions — we have to get information to the Navy for base access.”

Highlights of the event: Jessie Nino of Edward Jones succeeds Pam Whitt of AmericanWest Bank as president. And awards will be presented to the 2014 Person of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Leader of the Year, Organization of the Year, Business of the Year, and Emerging Business of the Year.  Here are the nominees.

Person of the Year: Tom Duchemin, Tammy Mattson, and Debbie Nazarino.

Volunteer of the Year: Ron Krell, Tom Nordlie, and Jackie Smaha.

Young Leader of the Year: Makenzie Moody, Peter Crabtree, and Greer Gates.

Organization of the Year: Gateway Fellowship Community Meals Team, Coffee Oasis, Viking Fest Corporation.

Business of the Year: Valley Nursery, Pacific Northwest Title, and the North Kitsap Herald.

Emerging Business of the Year: Coffee Oasis, Kitsap Crossfit, and Peninsula Cancer Center.

Incidentally, the chamber has moved to 19735 10th Ave. NE, Suite S100, Poulsbo. The after-hours and ribbon cutting are Jan. 16, 5:15 p.m.

The Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce has approximately 410 members, according to Harrison. The chamber works to advance the interests of local businesses; hosts luncheons, networking events and seminars; publishes a newsletter and posts email blasts; and engages in marketing efforts.
