POULSBO — Luciano Marano, Kevan Moore and Kipp Robertson are the winners of Sound Publishing Kitsap’s second-quarter editorial contest.

The winning entries were published in print or posted online between April 1 and June 30.

Moore, of the Bremerton Patriot and Central Kitsap Reporter, won Best News Story for “Harrison workers’ supporters come out in force,” June 20, page A1. Moore learned that church, labor and political leaders would present a petition to Harrison CEO Scott Bosch regarding contract negotiations and an impending labor strike, and he was there to cover the event and the discussions that occurred.

Marano, of the Bainbridge Island Review, won Best Feature Story for “Bainbridge Island: A new home for old champions,” June 27, page A1. Marano wrote about a new refuge on Bainbridge Island for retired race horses.

Marano also won Best Photo for a sports photo in the Bainbridge Island Review, May 30, page A22. A judge wrote, “Luciano captured a moment on the sidelines that most people at the game missed because their attention was on the celebration. The photo captures the weight of the defeat.”

Kipp Robertson won Best Page Design for the front page of the Kingston Community News’ June edition. Judges wrote, “Clean design with a great [centerpiece feature] pic,” and “Good mix of stories.” Robertson is editor of the Kingston Community News, and sports and education reporter for the North Kitsap Herald.
