Farmers Insurance works with adults everyday, but the agency is now looking to work with their smallest clients — babies.

Farmers Insurance agencies throughout Kitsap County are collecting donations for March of Dimes, an organization that aims “to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality,” according to the organization’s Web site.

This is the third consecutive year Farmers Insurance has collected money for March of Dimes and Farmers District Manager Greg Govender said March of Dimes is an easy organization to support.

“I think with most big companies you pick a good cause to support and I think children are an easy one to get behind,” Govender said. “Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Kitsap and the surrounding peninsula.”

Farmers Insurance Recruiting Manager Jennifer Govender said Farmers began preparing for March of Dimes in January, but the campaign is just now taking off.

“We started the beginning of April, but we’ve been preparing since January, but April is when donations started coming through,” Jennifer said.

Silverdale Farmers Agent Maggie Brewton-Hight decorated her Myhre Road office with posters and paper baby booties to let clients know she supports March of Dimes. She said a “premature baby affects an entire family” and she feels great knowing she is doing something to help those babies and their families.

“Being in insurance, we’re all about safety. It makes us feel good to know that all those babies are growing up to be normal human beings,” Brewton-Hight said.

Farmers Insurance is hosting an event at the Jewel Box Theater in Poulsbo Saturday, May 24, to support March of Dimes. The event is for Farmers agents and state Farmers executives to watch the production,” Too Old for the Chorus (but not too old to be a star!).” Farmers Insurance will auction off various baskets at the event to support its March of Dimes campaign.

“We basically bought out the house and some of the agents are giving out or raffling off tickets to clients,” Jennifer said.

People can stop in Farmers Insurance’s district office at 19302 Powder Hill Place NE, Suite 103 in Poulsbo to register to win four tickets to see “Too Old for the Chorus (but not too old to be a star!)” at the Jewel Box Theater in Poulsbo.

Brewton-Hight said people can stop in any Farmers Insurance office now through the beginning of June to donate money to their March of Dimes campaign.

“Of course it’s tax-deductible and people can come in and make a donation,” Brewton-Hight said.

Jennifer added that people also can donate online at www.marchforbabies.org/marchbabies08.

“They can donate to the Web site or stop in an agent’s office,” Jennifer said.

“They can stop at 2416 Myhre Road particularly,” Brewton-Hight said with a smile.
