    A longtime assistant coach for the Bremerton High School boys basketball team resigned Wednesday, citing disappointment with the district’s head coach replacement.
    The resignation of Phil Olwell, the only paid assistant on the team that went to state last year, comes two days after the district hired Darren Bowden, 41, to coach the Bremerton squad.

    Erickson’s job is to care for the ice at the Bremerton Ice Arena, home of the Puget Sound Tomahawks, keeping the frozen surface smooth, flat and at the perfect temperature for every occasion. He drives the arena’s lone Zamboni, a one-speed electric ice cutter that’s equipped with a 77-inch blade as well as a pair of tanks that hold a combined 200 gallons of water.

    Kitsap Pumas expand operations, join pro indoor league

    The Kitsap Pumas have launched a professional indoor soccer team in addition to the outdoor squad, joining the Professional Arena Soccer League for the 2010-11 season, the club announced Monday.
    Kitsap will begin the season Nov. 13 on the road against the Tacoma Stars before its home opener against the Wenatchee Fire Nov. 20 at the Olympic Soccer and Sports Center at Pendergast Regional Park in Bremerton.
