Laurie Kay Stearns

Jan. 19, 1961 – Aug. 28, 2018

Laurie Kay Stearns, 57, of Silverdale, passed away on August 28, 2018. Laurie was born on January 19, 1961 in Los Angeles. A graduate of Castle Park High School in Chula Vista, California, Laurie went on to receive degrees and play collegiate basketball for Southwestern College, Eastern Washington University, and Biola University. Laurie had a lifelong passion for basketball, both as a player and as a mentor, and was a beloved coach of girls’ teams at Central Kitsap High. She also shared her love of sports with the kids of the Boys & Girls Club, where she worked and volunteered for a time. Most recently, she worked as a caregiver—one adored by her patients. Laurie’s passing leaves a huge hole in the world, one she filled with her big heart, big voice, and the big laughs she prompted from friend and stranger alike.

The middle child of five, she will rest at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo, alongside her older brothers, Richard and Walter. She is survived by her mother, Louise Maheu; her younger brothers, Kenneth and Michael; her niece, Georgiana; and the two pets she adored: her Dalmatian, Tache, and her cat, Meela.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, September 21st at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4215 Pine Rd NE Bremerton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Kitsap County Humane Society at https://www.kitsap-humane.org/donate/ . An online memorial can be seen at www.poulsbomortuary.com.
