The U.S. Senate voted April 6 to invoke what’s known as the “nuclear option,” a Senate rule that allows simple majority votes to pass legislation subject to filibuster action by the opposing party.
Previous rules mandated that 60 votes were needed to defeat any attempt by the minority party to block a vote by use of the filibuster.
