POULSBO – A windstorm knocked trees down and caused outages through Kitsap County Feb. 9.
As of 9 p.m., approximately 7,359 Puget Sound Energy customers in Kitsap County were without power, according to the utility’s website. Many of the outages were caused by trees that fell into power lines.
The hardest hit were Bremerton, with 3,580 customers without power; and Poulsbo, 3,308. Outages were reported in Hansville, Kingston, Olalla, Port Orchard, Silverdale and Suquamish.
At 9 p.m., the Kitsap County Road Department reported Pioneer Hill Road was closed at Rhododendron Lane because of trees down in power lines. Ditto on Seabeck Highway at the roundabout.
The National Weather Service issued three weather-related warnings Feb. 9:
One, an increased threat of landslides because of heavy rainfall and melting snow which “will put extra pressure on soil instability.”
Two, a wind advisory through 3 p.m. Feb. 10, with forecasts of southwest winds of 20-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”
Three, a coastal flood advisory through 9 a.m. Feb. 10. “The combination of high astronomical tides and relatively low pressure could produce minor flooding along the shorelines around the time of high tide …” along Hood Canal, Admiralty Inlet, and Puget Sound, the weather service reported. “A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.”
