Art galleries on Bainbridge Island and across the water — no, not Seattle, the other way, in Bremerton, are hosting First Friday gallery walks July 7. With the advent of longer and warmer days this is the perfect month to get out of the house and check out what local artists are up to.
In Bremerton the Collective Visions Gallery at 331 Pacific Ave. is hosting acrylic artist Larry Parker in “Northwest Meets Southwest.â€
The show presents Parker’s work done in the Pacific Northwest and Arizona, which are the main sources of his inspiration. He has exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the Northwest, including Seattle, Tacoma, Cannon Beach, Ore. and Boise, Idaho, as well as in Arizona.
Parker’s show opens with a reception during First Friday, which runs from 5-8 p.m. July 7. Other businesses in the Fourth Street and Pacific Avenue area will also be open late that night.
On Bainbridge Island, First Friday is centered along Winslow Way, with shows opening at Gallery Fraga, 166 Winslow Way E., Roby King Galleries, 176 Winslow Way E. and Bainbridge Arts and Crafts Gallery, 151 Winslow Way E. It runs from 6-8 p.m. July 7.
Gallery Fraga is showing the egg tempera work of Mark Norrander. This unique medium is seldom seen but not to be missed. The technique of mixing egg yolk and powdered pigment is centuries old and yields works with a brilliant depth of color.
This show features 13 pieces centered around the themes of “Bainbridge Island,†“Yakima River,†“Moonrise†and “Sunrise.â€
Roby King Galleries presents its ninth annual exhibition of the works of Cheri Christensen, whose large backlit animal portraits are practically icons at the gallery.
“My paintings are an expression of my feelings towards these animals; their close connection to their environment and the drama of light as it plays across their forms,†she said in a press release.
Bainbridge Arts and Crafts is hosting a dual exhibit, painter Mike Smith and nine artists in a multi-media show called “E-I-E-I-O,†based on depictions of farm animals. Artists in the show are Garth Edwards, Bob Fermanis, Karin Gambill, Karen Hackenberg, Sandra Hurd, Chris Lehwalder, Sally Robison, Brad Rude and Michele Soderstrom.
Karin Gambill demonstrates oil painting with a palette knife, 1-4 p.m. July 8 at the gallery.
