Jesse Young brings a fresh outlook

It’s another election season, and this one is shaping up to be one of the most interesting and critical in a long time.

Among the most significant races is the one for the 6th Congressional District seat currently held by Norm Dicks.

He has drawn two challengers. One candidate has lost to Dicks in previous elections by huge margins.

The other, Jesse Young, is a new face and name who gives promise to those seeking a different direction and a more fiscally responsible approach to government.

The most often heard refrain in support of Mr. Dicks in that he protects the shipyard and brings home the bacon. True, he brings home the bacon.

But at what cost?

How many of us see a tunnel being constructed with government money while we watch our 401Ks and net worth shrink?

Same thing with an earmark to support some entity while we worry about our taxes increasing and going into deeper debt to pay for all this.

Expensive bacon.

I know that Jesse Young is absolutely just as committed to preserving and growing our area’s quality way of life.

He’ll bring home the bacon, too, but not at the expense of mortgaging our future.

If the Democrats lose their majority in the House, he’ll also be in a very good position to avocate for the shipyard.

One of life’s lessons I’ve learned is that, in the long run, it’s not so much how you get into trouble — it’s how you get out of it.

We’ve come to our present crisis through many administrations and congresses of both political parties.

Now is the time to move on, take bold steps, make some changes and get ourselves out of this mess.

A good start would be to vote for Jesse Young in the primary and then elect him in November as our new representative from the 6th Congressional District.
