POULSBO — With a failing slope at its backdoor, North Kitsap Fishline and the city have agreed to work together to fix the problem.

In order to pay for the repairs, Fishline will host a wine tasting and silent auction event at the0 Poulsbo’s Sons of Norway lodge from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 10.

The city and food bank have both been actively seeking donations from local contractors and building material suppliers to help with the project.

The wine tasting and silent auction, which costs $25 per couple, will raise cash to cover the difference between donated labor and materials and the actual project costs.

“This is in addition to our regular operating budget,” said Fishline executive director Margie Addington of the slope expense.

The need also comes at a time when the food bank is preparing to meet the increased needs of the holiday season, Addington said.

City crews have delivered blocks to the site, which has made the food bank’s limited parking even more scarce, she said.

However, First Lutheran Church and the owner of the building to the north of Fishline’s 3rd Avenue location have made their parking available, she said.

“This is turning out to be a true community effort,” Addington said.

Fishline Board President Mary Barker said the fund raiser is the first of its kind for the food bank and donations are still being accepted to pay for Fishline’s part of the slope repair, which is estimated at $20,000.

“This is in addition to our holiday fund raising,” Barker said. “All of our holiday donations go to food and food baskets.”

Fishline already has items for the silent auction, but is still looking for more, she said.

Once all of the auction items have been collected, a list will be published before the Nov. 10 event, she said.

Tickets will be available at a several locations around the city prior to the event, Barker said.

Those wanting to assist the project can call Fishline at (360) 779-5190 and donations specifically for the project can be sent to Fishline at P.O. Box 1517, Poulsbo, WA 98370.
