Muriel Williams

Muriel M. Williams, 93, of Poulsbo passed away July 2 in Bremerton. Born Oct 15, 1916, in Poulsbo, Muriel was the daughter of Christie B. and Minnie M. (Benson) Iverson. She was a 1934 graduate of North Kitsap Union High School. She married Clifford I. Williams Sr. on Aug. 26, 1935, in Cathlamet, and they raised five children in Poulsbo. She was a telephone operator, working for the Poulsbo Telephone Company, and later Sprint, from which she retired.

A lifetime resident of Poulsbo, Williams was an active participant in the community. She was a member of the Poulsbo Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Sons of Norway Lodge 44, Vinland Lutheran Church, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, American Red Cross, and Friends of Skamakowa. She enjoyed her family, reading, newspapers, and crosswords (especially the New York Times — in ink). She was a Poulsbo City Hall watchdog and an archivist of all things Poulsbo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford I. (Bill) Williams Sr.; son, Clifford I. (Cliff) Williams, Jr.; and sisters, Dorothy Kasnick, Barbara Ditmer and Maxine Bartrow. She is survived by sons Jon C. Williams (Dottie) of Plainview, Ark., Michael A. Williams (Diane) of Lynnwood, and Andrew P. (Pete) Williams of Poulsbo; daughter, Sara J. (Sally) Williams of Seattle; niece, Kay Kasnick Gearllach (Mike) of Poulsbo; nephews, Pat Kasnick of Ohio, Richard Kasnick of Honduras, and Tom Kasnick (Valerie) of Santa Rosa, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, at Vinland Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vinland Lutheran Church, the Poulsbo Historical Society, Poulsbo Friends of the Library, or North Kitap Fishline.
