Lane E. Holdcroft, 70

Lane Ellis Holdcroft of Miller Bay died July 27, 2004 in the Olympic National Forest. He was 70.

Holdcroft was born to Ellis and Zella M. (Hodgin) Holdcroft Sept. 4, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa.

He married Jane E. Dupar on Dec. 27, 1986 in Silverdale.

Holdcroft graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa in 1951, Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1955 and the Defense Language Institute of Monterey, Calif. in 1957. He later graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. in 1976.

Holdcroft served in the United States Army and Reserves from 1956-1959, earned the rank of sergeant and received the Arthur S. Fleming Award for Distinguished Service in the State Department in 1971. He was a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. State Department for 25 years and retired in 1984. After retirement, he worked as a consulting agricultural economist.

Holdcroft was a member of the International Agricultural Economists Association, past president of the Friends of Miller Bay, member of the West Sound Conservation Council and founding member of Redeemer United Methodist Church of Kingston.

He enjoyed tennis, hiking, camping and fishing.

Holdcroft is survived by his wife Janet Dupar Holdcroft of Poulsbo; sons Lane A. (Melanie) Holdcroft of Maui, Hawaii, Grant A. (Jodie) Holdcroft of Poulsbo and Todd E. (Cheryl) Holdcroft of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; stepson Michael E. Martz of Seattle; daughter Robin E, (Karl) Alberts of Poulsbo; stepdaughters Elizabeth A. Dupar of Sausalito, Calif. and Mary B. (R. Wayne) Eisenhart of Sabastopol, Calif.; sister Adalynn James of Circleville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Holdcroft was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Burr.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Redeemer United Methodist Church of Kingston followed by entombment at Acacia Memorial Park of Seattle. Arrangements are under The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
