Wilma Gasper

Wilma Fern Gasper, 92, died Feb. 1 at her home in Port Orchard.

She was born Sept. 19, 1922, to John and Lily Kinzie, in Belleville, Kansas. Wilma grew up in Wheaton, Minnesota and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1940. After graduating she went to normal school to become a school teacher.

Wilma later moved to Bremerton and was a civil service worker at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

On Sept. 26, 1944, she married Larry M. Gasper in Tacoma.

The couple moved to Minnesota and Wilma Wilma taught in a one-room schoolhouse for two years.

They move back to Bremerton in the late 1940s. She later attended Mr. Lee’s Beauty School and after graduating she was hired at The Witches Hut. Wilma retired in 1984.

Wilma was very active in TOPS Chapter 87 and was a weight recorder and KOPS for 19 years. She was a member of the Yard City Bible Church, since 1956 and served many different roles, including spiritual chairman and a youth leader.

She is survived by her children, Shari Willson of Port Orchard, Marc (Leigh Ann) Gasper of Belfair, and Debbie (Frank) Santilli of Manville, New Jersey; sister, Nell Brown of Sun City West, Arizonz; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is set for 4 p.m. Feb. 15, at Faith Community Bible Church, 3648 West F St., Bremerton. Memorials may be donations to Franciscan Hospice or Faith Community Bible Church in Wilma’s name.
