General Election: Steve Bauer supports incumbents

I intend to support both Representatives Christine Rolfes and Sherry Appleton for re-election this year. I have worked closely with both as they have served the citizens of North Kitsap County. As former City councilmembers, both representatives have helped on city issues affecting Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo. Both Rolfes and Appleton have been very helpful on county issues as well — a rare partnership these days.

More importantly, both representatives have been huge supporters on issues important to the North End of the county. Rolfes and Appleton have been strong advocates on ferry issues — including getting a suspension on rate increases two sessions ago. Both were involved in protecting our marine waters —including creation of the Puget Sound Partnership. Rolfes and Appleton have been huge advocates for getting funding for the Kingston Village Green. Appleton recently arranged a visit by the speaker of the house to get his support for legislative funding for a $1 million grant request for the Village Green. Recently, Rolfes and Appleton secured funding to replace the culvert at Carpenter Creek in Kingston that has impaired one of the most important refuge estuaries on Puget Sound; culminating a 10-year effort by Kingston advocates, the county and lately, the Puget Sound Partnership. Both women have worked with the county on state highway issues affecting Kingston and the North End.

As members of the majority party in the Washington legislature, representatives Rolfes and Appleton will be in a position to produce results for their district. This is especially critical in getting funding for the Village Green in this tight economic environment.

For these reasons I urge voters to support both Representatives this election.
