A 27-year-old Bremerton man reported that his apartment was trashed and that someone attempted to set it on fire July 16.

The man told police that he had been away from his Spruce Avenue apartment for the past few days because his ex-girlfriend was in the process of moving out.

The two got into a dispute that involved the police July 13 and he was advised to stay away while she readied to leave by July 16.

When he checked his apartment at about 8 a.m. to see if she had moved out, all the windows were open and the gas heat was turned all the way up. All four burners on the kitchen gas stove were on and there were stacks of newspaper placed between them.

None of the paper had caught on fire, though the man said he was “lucky” his house was not set on fire. The apartment was also trashed with garbage scattered everywhere.

All of his ex-girlfriend’s belongings were gone and he noticed that his desktop computer valued at about $500 was missing.

He told police that besides his ex-girlfriend, no one else has a key to the apartment. The officer suggested filing a protection order. The report was forwarded to detectives and a copy was sent to the prosecutor for review.
