A tale of two halves dictated the outcome for the Buccaneers.
The Kingston Buccaneers (7-8, 7-7 in the Olympic League) fell to the Port Angeles Roughriders (13-3, 11-3 OL) 4-2 at home Oct. 28.
“I think we started well, and I think, kind of like our previous game, we were down to two subs and we were just getting tired at the end,” Kingston coach Mike Fleck said.
PA landed an up-close-and-personal shot on goal within the first two minutes of the match, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Nonetheless, Kingston midfielder Charlie Bateman managed to score two minutes later, giving the Bucs an early 1-0 lead.
PA managed to respond 20 minutes later after the Kingston goal, tying the match at one apiece with 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
“We were trying to stay composed,” Kingston senior defender Christina Prescott said. “It’s hard when PA was breathing down our necks and really just coming at us with everything they had.”
PA managed to get another goal past Buccaneer goaltender Harlow Heidel with 26 minutes remaining in the match after controlling the ball for a majority of the beginning of the half, giving them a 2-1 lead. The Roughriders tallied two more goals before the end of the match.
Senior midfielder Madisyn Gibbs put in one last goal for the Bucs.
“The score does not dictate how I feel about what our girls did tonight,” Fleck said. “I think if we can get some girls healthy, you know, playoffs and everything looks good.”
