The Buccaneers couldn’t get anything going against East Jefferson, as Kingston was shut out at home 32-0 Oct. 24.
The Bucs (2-6) previously fell to Life Christian Academy 36-0 the week before.
“Game plan was to shut their run down, which we obviously did not do,” Kingston coach Levi Andrews said. “We knew they weren’t going to throw the ball in the last two games.”
The cards did not play in favor of the Bucs early on.
On the first offensive snap, the ball was snapped over quarterback Jett Petrick’s head, giving East Jefferson a first-and-goal. The Rivals punched it in for a touchdown within the first minute of the game, setting a stark tone for the rest of the game.
The Bucs offense went three-and-out on their next three drives and the Rivals punched it in for another touchdown, giving East Jefferson a 14-0 lead entering the second quarter.
East Jefferson managed to power through the Bucs’ defense, executing a long run for another Rival touchdown, extending the lead to 21-0.
“We need to try way harder in practice,” junior defensive end Chayton Sullivan said. “We need to work on open field tackling.”
In the third quarter, the Rivals replicated the beginning of the first half, scoring within the first minute of play through quick passes and runs to lead to another touchdown, giving them a 28-0 lead.
Freshman offensive tackle Brice Fanua was ejected from the game in the third quarter for inappropriate language, and the rest of the Kingston team battled penalties the entire night, with multiple players being called for inappropriate language.
Nonetheless, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, senior linebacker Ronan Prendergast intercepted a pass deep in Buccaneer territory, providing Kingston with its first takeaway of the game.
However, the Bucs couldn’t get the ball moving, giving up a safety a few plays later, cementing another loss for them on the season.
“Watching us do this the last few games, where we feel like we’re prepared, and once we get to the game, we’re not prepared. It’s a real head scratcher sometimes of what I’m doing wrong,” Andrews said.
