Ronald Bruce passed away September 1st in his home in Poulsbo with his family at his side. Ron was born October 21, 1939 in San Diego, California. He spent much of his childhood traveling with his mother and also lived much of the time with his grandmother in Port Orchard. Ron stated that he felt he had finally found a permanent home when he married Donna Jean Milton in 1963 and settled in Poulsbo. Ron served for 7, 1/2 years in the US Marine Corps and after his discharge in 1966 he worked for the Washington State Ferries, working his way up to Chief Mate on the MV Spokane. He retired in 1999 from that position. He was a member of the Poulsbo Sportsman Club and enjoyed shooting Black Powder and Long Range 22 Silhouette. He also enjoyed fishing and was especially proud of the 405 pound Halibut he caught on a fishing trip to Alaska. Wood working and growing corn also occupied his spare time. Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, D.J., a son John (Ty), a granddaughter Taylor, and one sister Linda. A daughter Julie Pietz passed away in 2016 from breast cancer. Following cremation a private burial will take place and a celebration of his life will be held at the family home at a time to be announced. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society, the Poulsbo Historical Society or a charity of your choice.
