PORT ORCHARD — A layer of asphalt is being laid along one of the two new roundabouts that figure prominently in a major project to widen Tremont Street in Port Orchard to four lanes. Tremont is one of the city’s major arterials leading into downtown.

Workers this week began asphalt work at the Tremont Street and South Kitsap Boulevard intersection roundabout near the interchange at SR 16. Later this year, they will start paving work up the hill at a second roundabout being constructed at Tremont and Pottery Avenue.

The project is expected to be completed by spring of next year.
