Destroying habitat and special places

Published 4:16 pm Thursday, June 18, 2015

I’m adding my voice to Mr. McDermott’s letter (June 12) regarding redundant development and the loss of our Kitsap forestlands; I’m surprised that more readers haven’t raised their voices!

My family has resided near Poulsbo since 1970. We continue to watch lush forests be flattened and paved over, eliminating wildlife habitat and destroying the things that make North Kitsap a very special place.

Since more and more development seems to be a given, thank goodness for nonprofits like the Great Peninsula Conservancy and its partners in the Kitsap Forest & Bay Project, which are tirelessly raising money to purchase and save large tracts of forest and farming lands. These groups need to be supported by those who care about North Kitsap’s natural amenities (or what’s left of them).
