Astrology is entertainment, not scientific fact

I refer to the article by Ms. Suzanne O’Clair in the Kitsap Week section of the Herald’s June 12 edition.

Appropriately enough, the article is entitled “Warning: ‘Open Mouth, Insert Foot’ Zone Ahead.” I believe, in writing this article, Ms. O’Clair did precisely that!

In my view, it is unfortunate that our community newspaper gives credence to superstition. To my knowledge, there is no credible evidence that the position of the planets above us has any influence on the earth and its inhabitants. I was also surprised that the editorial staff worsened the situation by adding a free advertisement for Ms. O’Clair’s services as a practicing astrologer.

Ms. O’Clair’s assessment of “Leos” such as me brilliantly disproved her capabilities by noting my “charisma” and my “dazzling self.” Anybody who knows me at all will instantly recognize the fallacies of astrology!

Of course, there are those who are fans of newspaper astrology articles and there are even some who are guided by such nonsense. Fair enough, but a community newspaper should provide us reason and fact, not superstition. I suggest that, in the future, such articles should bear an editorial  heading that the information is for entertainment only and has no scientific basis.
