Don’t ‘deface’ the Norseman statue

Would you place a 12th Man flag on a Native American totem pole? How about rabbit ears or, as recently done, Mexican attire?

I doubt that anyone would do this, so why does it seem proper for this administration to allow such disgraceful actions to happen to the Viking statue in Viking Junction?

I happen to hold my Scandinavian heritage as deeply as any Pacific Northwest Indian does theirs. I am insulted by the lack of sensitivity that our mayor and administrative managers seem to have to the “Little Norway” heritage that is supposed to be promoted by the City of Poulsbo. But, I guess, what should I expect from a mayor that rants and rages about cutting a few branches off a rot-ridden tree, devalues the name of Mr. Kvelstad by changing the name of the pavilion, and seems to feel it is OK to deface a statue welcoming people to this community that used to be proud of its Scandinavian heritage?

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not devaluing the heritage and customs of the Irish, Mexicans or others, but do it on something other than our Viking.
