Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue’s Fire Chief, Scott Weninger, has successfully completed the process that awards him the professional designation of “Chief Fire Officer” (CFO). The Commission on Professional Credentialing met in August 2014 to officially confer the re-designation upon Chief Weninger, who is one of only 993 CFOs worldwide.
The Fire Chief Officer Designation program is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate their excellence in seven measured components including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competencies. Weninger received his original designation in 2005.
“Education and certification are an essential part for a chief officer to effectively serve the community and prepare their organization for future challenges,” Weninger said.
A board of review consisting of members of the fire and emergency services profession, academia, and municipal agencies review each application and recommends successful candidates for designation to the Commission.
Weninger became the fire chief for Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue on Aug. 1, 2012.
