Kingston grad receives soroptimist scholarship

KINGSTON — Emily Vernik received $3,000 from the Soroptimist International of Greater North Kitsap recently.
Vernik, a 2014 graduate of Kingston High School, was awarded the Lynne Martin Memorial Scholarship.
Vernik was an honor roll student, graduating in the top 10 percent of her class, according to information from the soroptimist club. She received the WIAA Distinguished Scholastic Award and the Olympic League Scholar Athlete Award.
Along with her accolades, Vernik helped care for children in the Lions Club’s PTSD Recovery Camp for two years.
Vernik was accepted to Washington State University’s Honor College. Her chosen field of study is sports management.
Soroptimist International offers scholarships each year to qualifying females. Scholarships are for post-secondary education that will result in a degree or certification.
