Insulted by cartoon in February KCN

Published 10:17 am Monday, April 1, 2013

The inflammatory cartoon in your February issue depicting Washington state ferry workers was insulting and irresponsible.

All public employees are under attack right now but you have chosen to single out ferry workers for especially degrading treatment. Last month’s cartoon was bad and now this.

The cartoon shows a ferry worker stealing a part from a car on the car deck and then installing it with duct tape. Oh, please. The professional and hard-working people who keep the boats running safely and dependably day after day deserve better. They have had their pay and benefits cut. Their jobs require more qualifications and more responsibilities. Sound familiar?

They are clearly not to blame for fare increases and delays. Late departures can result from many issues including boat and train traffic and mechanical problems. Routine maintenance gets deferred to save money.

This editorializing is ignorant and divisive. You owe us all an apology.
