Not voting for Romney-Ryan

Mr. Kent Lord needs to look back at a bit of history (“On a rocket ride to economic shambles,” page A5, Sept. 14 Herald).

This Democratic president is not a liberal. He has tried repeatedly to work with Republicans on programs that they supported until he pushed them. He took over a country with an “economy … in shambles” and, in trying to mistakenly reach across the aisle, he has done nothing but run into Republican road blocks.

The Romney-Ryan plan has been totally unexplained or detailed. And it changes from day to day, according to Mr. Romney’s mood, so how can we say it will fix anything? Medicare does not need “fixing” with a voucher system. What needs fixing is, first of all, a series of unfunded wars. (While the wars are unfunded, the military has not been catastrophically defunded; in fact, their budget has been increased.)

Second, our tax system is broken. We can not work our way out of a huge deficit by lowering taxes; that is the same as lowering income. We need to return to former rates or institute fairer, more balanced rates.

Third, God forbid that “natural gas production, coal producers and oil exploration companies will be unshackled” lest they return us to the filthy world we are just beginning to clean up.

Fourth, the Republicans and, specifically, Mr. Romney, are responsible for outsourcing most of our jobs with decent pay; they have not said word one as to how they will create these thousands of “J-O-B-S.”

Finally, the Romney-Ryan ticket supported by Mr. Lord will leave our “progeny’” lost in a world with a few vastly wealthy beings ruling a majority that is dirt poor.
