Voters must become informed before voting

Fred Springsteel has fun making contrary statements to provoke people. But his July 27 letter (“Trust your gut when voting Aug. 7, page A4, Herald), stating that he votes against all incumbents seems irresponsible. It appeals mainly to those too lazy to inform themselves about the candidates and their qualifications.
We’re told that independents may decide the outcome of our next election. What’s sad is that the main source of information for many of these voters is the biased opinions of their uninformed friends.
Corporate billionaires plan to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into misleading ads and internet propaganda in order to control the outcome of this year’s elections. Voters who won’t bother to learn the facts are a prime target.
Fred should find another way to entertain himself.
