Duck rescue was a compliment to Poulsbo

Ann Simandl’s letter about the recent duck rescue says the varied services involved bespeaks community service at its finest (“Thanks to those involved in duck rescue,” page A4, May 4 Herald).

Reading how the ducklings were saved was indeed heartwarming. And it goes even further. It reflects values and ethics not normally demonstrated in busy urban settings. When the police and fire fighter responses include consideration for animal welfare we know that something wonderful is demonstrated. It has everything to do with kindness, compassion, and the best of humanity.

Mahatma Gandhi famously preached that the greatness of a nation is reflected in how animals there are treated. And what a compliment this was to Poulsbo.
