A Bremerton man is charged with assault after a confrontation with a Poulsbo police officer on May 1.

According to the police report, a woman went to Poulsbo Officer Shawn Ziemann’s house after being followed and harassed by a driver on State Route 3. Roy A. Adkins, 44, was northbound near Keyport when he allegedly rear-ended the back of the woman’s car several times, causing minor damage to both bumpers.

The woman pulled into a relative’s residence and went to Ziemann’s residence a few doors down for help. Ziemann attempted to talk to Adkins after identifying himself as an off-duty police officer. Adkins allegedly began threatening to hit Ziemann and threatening the woman.

Witnesses said Adkins attempted to hit Ziemann when the officer took Adkins to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.

An on-duty Poulsbo officer arrived and arrested Adkins. He is charged with second-degree assault against the woman.

Adkins was booked into Kitsap County Jail on $15,000 bail.
