Stray bullet found in Suquamish home, no arrests

SUQUAMISH — A Suquamish woman reported a bullet “flying past” her head last week at her home. No one was injured.

A 29-year-old Suquamish man called police when his girlfriend, a 27-year-old woman, and her friend, a 33-year-old woman, said she saw something fly past the 33-year-old woman’s head and heard a “firecracker” sound, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s report.

The 29-year-old man returned to their residence on the 18000 block of Urban Avenue and found a bullet hole in the fence, holes in two lawn chairs on the deck, and a .22 caliber bullet round in the residence, partially protruding through sheetrock in the kitchen.

The line of fire came from a neighbor on the other side of their fence, on Center Street. A 27-year-old man admitted to shooting a .22 caliber handgun earlier that day. The officer in the report explained the requirements of firing a gun on private property, which includes a 5-acre requirement and an approved backstop. “Neither of these requirements were even remotely close to being met,” according to the report.

The handgun belonged to the owner of the residence, a 37-year-old man who was out of town at the time.

No arrest was made at the time, and the report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review/charging.
