Judson Miller announced as North Kitsap High School’s new principal

Judson Miller, an assistant principal at Curtis High School in the University Place School District, has been named principal of North Kitsap High School.

The district made the announcement on its website and in emails sent out Monday evening.

“My wife and I are so excited to get back to North Kitsap and be part of the community again,” Miller said. “This opportunity is the culmination of 10 years of work for me and I am ready to get started tomorrow.”

North Kitsap School District selected Miller from a field of several candidates. A search team, made up of staff members and parents, helped narrow the selection. Community members were invited to listen to presentations from the candidates and provide feedback at recent community meetings. Once the search was narrowed to two finalists, site visits were conducted at their current high schools and reference checks were completed.

“Judson demonstrated that he will have very positive relationships with students while holding them to high standards,” Superintendent Rick Jones said on the district’s website. “He has proven to be an instructional leader in working directly with Curtis High staff in a Professional Learning Community setting. Judson was repeatedly acknowledged by his co-workers for his outstanding communication skills and follow-through with details. I am confident that his leadership will positively impact staff, students and our community.”

Miller’s previous experience also includes working as an assistant principal at Stadium High School in Tacoma and as the dean of students and a teacher at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard. He earned a bachelor of arts from Montana State University, a master’s of education from University of Washington, and principal certification from University of Washington.

Miller succeeds Kathy Prasch, who is retiring this year. She earned $115,038 a year.
