Cut trees before they fall

Winter weather is here again, along with snow, high winds, downed trees and no electricity. You see the men and women out in the bitter cold with their chain saws cutting trees that have fallen and broken power lines. It’s the same thing every year. Millions of dollars spent by Puget Sound Energy to cut trees and repair electric lines. I can drive down hundreds of miles of roads all over Kitsap County and see trees next to high voltage power lines. Why is that?

I love trees, but I also love having electricity in my home. Does it not make sense to cut down the trees near power lines?
