This is a blatant insurance company attempt to grab business from a well-run functioning state government program. Our state’s system is admired by many other states. The Washington State Insurance Commissioner is against it. A privately run system will restrict clients with claims to those providers that the insurance company approves. The services rendered will be less, because the insurance companies are in business to make profit. The insurance companies will set the premiums too. If you think the L&I taxes are high, just wait until the insurance companies start increasing the premiums. Some things “the government” does well. Administering the L&I program is one such thing. The proponent’s mantra of “more choice” is just euphemism to provide insurance companies another opportunity to confuse the public with more “choices” that benefit the insurance companies.
