Poulsbo pharmacist’s license indefinitely suspended by health department

The Washington State Department of Health has indefinitely suspended the license of a Poulsbo pharmacist who admitted to diverting controlled substances for his own use, the department announced in a Sept. 16 press release.

Matthew William Legan was accused of diverting oxycodone and hydrocodone products from Poulsbo’s Rite Aid Pharmacy between November 2008, when he was first issued credentials, and February 2009, according to a statement of allegations from the department.

He admitted his actions to both his employer and a Board of Pharmacy investigator, the document states.

At the time, Legan’s credentials were placed on five years probation, and he was ordered to undergo a substance abuse monitoring program and pay $1,000 to the department.

On Jan. 8 2010 Legan reportedly failed a drug screen, and did not show for three following mandatory screens, causing the department to suspend his license, documents state.

He may apply for reinstatement after proving he’s been clean for one year. An employee at the Rite Aid pharmacy confirmed he is no longer employed there. View all related documents at www.doh.wa.gov.
