SUQUAMISH — A truck knocked down a utility pole on State Route 305 near Suquamish Way Monday afternoon, causing the pole to burst into flame.

The collision occurred at about 3 p.m. and briefly blocked both lanes of SR-305. Traffic from Bainbridge was being diverted on to Suquamish Way then to Totten Road, while the road was open for traffic coming from Poulsbo, according to the state Department of Transportation. Southbound backups extended five miles. Both lanes were open to traffic at 4:15 p.m.

State Patrol Trooper Krista Hedstrom said responders were waiting for Puget Sound Energy to shut off electricity to the pole before it could be cleared.
