Run for pot money in Silverdale leads to a runaway and an arrest

One teenager was arrested Friday in Silverdale and another is wanted for possession of a stolen car after the two nearly collided with a sheriff’s deputy on their way to borrow money for a “blunt.”

At about 7:27 p.m. Friday, a Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy was traveling east on Hogan Lane in Silverdale when an oncoming KIA Optima skidded to avoid a collision with the patrol car, according to a report. The vehicle pulled to the side of the road and stopped in front of the patrol car, missing a front license plate.

As the driver exited the vehicle, the deputy’s check on the car revealed it was stolen. The deputy told the driver to stop, but he ran west down Hogan Lane. The 17-year-old passenger also attempted to leave the car, but the deputy took custody of him. The passenger said the driver picked him up at Rob’s Quick Stop in Bremerton the previous night and they were on their way to the driver’s cousin’s house to borrow $5 for a “blunt.”

The passenger had a juvenile warrant out for his arrest and was taken to juvenile detention. A K-9 search for the driver was unsuccessful.

The KIA was released to its owner that evening.
