James Allen Johnson

James Allen Johnson, 85, of Poulsbo died Feb. 10 at Harborview Medical Center. He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Poulsbo to August and Jennie Johnson.

He graduated from North Kitsap High School and joined the Army in 1943, proudly serving in the South Pacific and on into Japan in the 155th Engineering Combat Battalion until 1946.

He married Coralea Linnen on Nov. 1, 1946, in Keyport and became a barber for the next 50 years in the shop he built on Viking Avenue in Poulsbo. He and Coralea built several homes on land in Poulsbo that had been his parent’s homestead. In 1916, Johnson’s family donated a piece of the homestead (currently occupied by Christ Memorial) to the North Kitsap School District for building Poulsbo Elementary school.

Johnson was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo, the Bremerton Elks and his favorite organization, the Poulsbo Sons of Norway.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife of 36 years, Coralea; his brother Boyd; and sisters Norma, Helen and Shirley.

Johnson is survived by his son James (Ruth) Johnson of Gig Harbor; and daughter Leann (Steve) Thompson of Poulsbo; grandchildren: Stacy (Todd) Gendreau (Audrey and Nathan), Marcy Johnson, Shaylene (Michael) Hall (Taylor and Ruby) and Gina (Paul) Michaud (Marissa, Kyle and Kohlton); and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. held Thursday, Feb. 18 at the First Lutheran Church cemetery in Poulsbo.
